About Sharon

Alana and me the summer I was diagnosed with breast cancer

Hello, I’m Sharon!

As you’ve probably read by now, I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. Absolutely nothing could have prepared me for this diagnosis.  I ate organic food, worked out and tried to maintain a somewhat healthy lifestyle (except for a possible chocolate addiction).  My story is like most other women and (sometimes) men….we did not see this coming!

Before I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I was just like  other moms–extremely busy. I had worked my way through college and continued my practice beyond graduation. I had earned a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Clinical Social Work. At the time I was diagnosed, I was teaching adjunct at the university while working on my Doctorate in Education with a concentration in Psychology. I was too busy for needless things such as doctor appointments, as you’ll read later when I initially called to cancel the appointment that started this whole journey. Most importantly, I am a Christian, a mother, wife, daughter, business woman, student and a teacher.

Once the initial shock of learning I had breast cancer began to lessen and reality set in, I began to write.  I wrote about the roller coaster of emotions breast cancer brings.  I wrote about the many surgeries, the 16 chemotherapy treatments, the unfortunate side effects, the medicines, emotions, and the day-to-day life of breast cancer. And then after it was all finished, I researched and wrote some more.

Since recovering from all the surgeries and treatments, my life has gone back to normal . . . whatever normal means. I live in Chattanooga , TN, with my amazing daughter, entertaining husband, and two adorable mutts. I have always said that before breast cancer I was grateful for life, now I live an even more grateful life.
